Persian asymmetric knotting is slower than the Turkish symmetric knot but allows finer detail at the same density. The weaver wraps yarn around a single warp and slips it under the next, leaving a single strand of pile. The technique is the reason classical Persian florals can carry the level of detail they do.
On a vertical loom in India, 2 weavers carried the cartoon line by line over approximately 4 months. Density runs at approximately 180 knots per square inch, with thousands of Persian-asymmetric knots across the field. The fibre is New Zealand wool, hand-spun on drop spindles to preserve a controlled variation in twist.
The composition
The palette is built around blue held against ivory and a deeper accent that anchors the field. The Gabbeh drawing carries a slight syncopation in the repeats that keeps the composition from settling into pattern fatigue. Sunlight on the dye lot will deepen the saturated passages and warm the ivories into bone over the first ten years. The variation between dye batches is small but visible at close range, which is the signature of vegetable-dyed work and the reason it commands the price it does.
What you are buying
At ₹27,999 the rug is an entry point to collecting hand-finished wool work. The fibre, the knot count, and the loom discipline match pieces sold at multiples of this price by Western dealers. Hand-knotted carpets do not depreciate. The pile compresses into a soft sheen, the dye deepens, and the rug is worth more in twenty years than it is today.
The piece in a room
At the size as listed, the rug holds its place as the focal element of a considered room. Pair with quiet upholstery and warm wood so the blue field reads as the work the rest of the composition is arranged around.
Conservation
Keep the rug on a rotation cycle of one half-turn per six months. Vacuum weekly with the beater bar off so the pile is not abraded. Address spills immediately by blotting with cotton, never by rubbing. Conservator hand-wash every five to seven years. Direct sunlight is welcome on vegetable-dyed wool; it restores rather than fades the dye depth.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
