Persian asymmetric knotting is slower than the Turkish symmetric knot but allows finer detail at the same density. The weaver wraps yarn around a single warp and slips it under the next, leaving a single strand of pile. The technique is the reason classical Persian florals can carry the level of detail they do.
2 weavers shared the loom for approximately 4 months, tying thousands of Persian-asymmetric knots at approximately 120 knots per square inch against a vertical beam. The pile is New Zealand wool, hand-spun and prepared in small dye lots so that the colour carries the slight irregularity that gives a hand-knotted ground its life.
The composition
The field reads as brown brought up against a quieter ground. The Gabbeh drawing carries the irregular grace that only hand-spun yarn produces, with motifs settling at slightly different weights from row to row. The border is restrained where it could be busy, a single guard band rather than the layered frames that turn lesser carpets crowded. Over the next decade the saturated tones will mellow into a softer register and the lighter passages will warm. A vegetable-dyed carpet does not arrive complete. It arrives ready to begin.
What you are buying
At ₹7,999 the rug is an entry point to collecting hand-finished wool work. The fibre, the knot count, and the loom discipline match pieces sold at multiples of this price by Western dealers. Hand-knotted carpets do not depreciate. The pile compresses into a soft sheen, the dye deepens, and the rug is worth more in twenty years than it is today.
The piece in a room
At the size as listed, the rug holds its place as the focal element of a considered room. Pair with quiet upholstery and warm wood so the brown field reads as the work the rest of the composition is arranged around.
Conservation
Rotate a half turn each spring and autumn so light and traffic age the fibre evenly. Vacuum weekly with suction only and the beater bar disengaged. Blot spills with clean cotton, never rub. A trained wool conservator should hand-wash the rug every five to seven years. With this care the carpet runs eighty years and outlives its first owner.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
