The composition is built around a calm beige ground with restrained darker incident. Everything else in the rug works in service of it. The Gabbeh tradition allows the field to do most of the visual work, and a beige reading of the form lets the wool itself carry the room rather than asking the dye palette to do it. The carpet here is a contemporary expression of that quietest version of the form.
Two weavers built the rug on a hand-loom over roughly four and a half months. The fibre is hand-spun New Zealand wool, tied in the Persian asymmetric knot at a moderate density that allows the high tribal pile to keep its volume. The undyed beige ground was drawn from a single fleece batch to keep the tonal weight even. Darker tribal figures were tied from small lots of naturally darker fleece, no dye in the body of the rug. The pile was sheared to fifteen millimetres in a two-pass finish.
The composition
A warm beige ground with small isolated darker incidents. The drawing is restrained, the field is the work, and the figures function as quiet markers rather than as central drawing. The undyed wool ages slowly toward a deeper bone and develops a soft sheen as the lanolin in the fleece works to the surface with use. The contrast between ground and accent sharpens slightly over the first five years.
What you are buying
An undyed New Zealand wool Gabbeh at this scale would trade through the specialist European dealers in the twelve to twenty thousand dollar band. This is a current weaving on a hand-built loom, in the same fibre, at the same knot density. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating; the natural patina of undyed wool is precisely what the collector market values in older tribal pieces.
The piece in a room
5' × 8' (152 × 244 cm) anchors a relaxed bedroom, a study with a single chair, or the foot of a guest bed. The beige holds against almost any architectural setting because it carries no positioned colour. Pair freely with timber, brass, raw plaster, and natural linen.
Conservation
Rotate the carpet a half turn every six months. Weekly vacuum, suction only, beater bar off. Blot spills immediately with clean cotton. Wool-trained conservator wash every five to seven years preserves the surface and the foundation.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
