The repeating ivory-and-black floral, like a Bach fugue, gets all of its expressive weight from how the same drawn elements are reordered against one another. This is a sister composition to the previous Floral Persian Ivory Black, woven by the same workshop tradition but resolved with its own cartoon variations. The lotus and palmette vocabulary recurs but the placement, the silk distribution, and the chromatic relationships have all been redrawn for this particular carpet. No two are identical.
The loom carried two weavers across four and a half months. Pile is wool blended with mulberry silk on a hand-spun cotton foundation, with the silk distributed across the cartoon to lift specific floral elements where the drawing called for chromatic emphasis. Wool was kettle-dyed across twelve separate skein batches to support the multi-element composition without flattening any of the relationships. Persian asymmetric knots, tied by feel against the loom beam row by row.
The composition
An ivory field carries curving vine work in indigo, soft rust, faded ochre, and the sage green that walnut hull produces when it strikes iron. The black perimeter band anchors the field at the borders, wide enough to register architecturally without crowding the drawing inside it. The silk catches on the lotus crowns and the inner palmette work and shifts as you cross the room. Across the years the ivory will warm to bone and the indigo will deepen into its second-stage register.
What you are buying
Hand-knotted wool and silk Persian florals at 6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) from workshop weavers with this level of cartoon discipline reach $7,000 to $14,000 in the New York and London dealer trade. The piece is woven on the same kind of vertical loom, in the same fibres, by weavers with comparable training, sold direct from India. A wool and silk carpet appreciates with use as the silk burnishes and the wool settles into its final patina.
The piece in a room
6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) sets the floor for a primary bedroom, a smaller lounge, or a study. The ivory ground gives the room visual breathing space. The black border pairs particularly well with painted joinery in deep colours, stained walnut furniture, brass and aged-gold detailing. A single strong work of figurative or botanical art on the principal wall completes the composition.
Conservation
Spring and autumn half-turns for even ageing. Vacuum weekly on suction only, beater bar disengaged. Blot any spill with a clean cotton cloth, never rub. Specialist wool hand wash every five to seven years preserves the silk lustre and the integrity of the ivory ground. The carpet serves seventy to a hundred years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
