The floral repeat, refined over four centuries in the Persian and Mughal court workshops, holds together by rhythm rather than incident. The eye reads it as a single field. This piece is hand-knotted in wool in India.
A small team worked the pattern across several months, every knot tied by hand against a vertical loom. The wool was selected for staple length and lustre, the cotton warp tensioned to keep the field square as the pile grew row by row. After the last row was tied, the pile was sheared, the back was sized, and the rug was hand-washed and laid out to set in indirect sun.
The composition
The field reads first: a calm beige and blue ground, with a floral repeat drawn in restrained colour. Closer in, the small variations in dye lot that only hand-spun wool can give. The drawing was carried at full scale on a cartoon hung behind the loom; the weaver worked from it row by row, by sight.
What you are buying
Comparable hand-knotted carpets in this tradition, woven in equivalent wool and at this density, sit in the international auction range when they appear in good condition. This is a new weaving in the same idiom, on the same kind of loom, at the same standard. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating. There is almost no other object you put on a floor with that property.
The piece in a room
Used at the size as listed, the piece works as a medium living area, primary bedroom, or formal sitting room. Warm chalk, oat, or the deeper terracotta walls a neutral rug needs let the beige and blue field settle as a considered ground. The drawing reads from a standing viewer, then resolves at chair-side. Furniture sits on the rug rather than around it.
Conservation
Rotate the rug end for end each season so the pile and the colour age in step. Vacuum weekly, suction only. Blot spills immediately with a clean white cloth, never rub. Hand wash by a specialist every six years. With this care the piece carries through a generation and gains character on the way.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Customer Reviews
Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
