The Indian dhurrie tradition produced flat-woven cotton and wool floor coverings for the courts and havelis of the subcontinent long before the first knotted carpet workshops were established under Mughal patronage. The piece in front of you carries that vocabulary into a neutral register.
The dhurrie was woven on a flatbed loom over 2 weeks by a pair of weavers, weft-faced cotton beaten tight against the warp so the surface lies almost as a textile rather than a pile carpet. No knots, no pile, only the interlock of the structure itself. The jute / sisal carries its colour with the slight tonal variation only natural fibre and small-batch dye produce. No two square feet of the rug read identically; that irregularity is the difference between a hand-loomed piece and a printed copy. The yarn was sourced and spun specifically for this production batch rather than pulled off general inventory, and the colour register stays consistent across the full run of the rug.
The composition
A multi-tone field carrying the geometry as a graphic block, the flat surface giving the colour a matte register that holds steady through changing light. The pattern is built into the cloth rather than printed onto it, which is why the back of the rug carries the same design as the front in mirror. The colour will move slightly over the first year of use as the dye sets into its final register and the natural light exposure works the saturation toward its long-term level. A flat-weave does not arrive complete; it settles into its finished state over the first season.
The piece in a room
4' × 6' (122 × 183 cm) is sized for an entry hallway, an open dining footprint, a sun room, or a verandah with covered seating. The multi-tone carries the rough, structural quality the form has had since the Bengal floodplains began producing the fibre commercially.
Care
Suction-only weekly vacuuming. Spot clean spills immediately with cool water and a white cloth, blotting rather than rubbing the area. Avoid prolonged direct sun on the dyed sections of the design. A specialist hand wash every two to three years preserves the colour and structure. Reverse the rug every season to balance fade and wear, and pad with a thin underlay against any hard floor.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
