Complete your setup
The sari silk yarn that produced this rug began as worn and discarded silk saris, opened, sorted, and recarded into a single fibre that holds every colour the saris once held. The result is a yarn no synthetic process can replicate, with a chromatic depth that comes from many lifetimes of cloth.
The pile is hand-knotted recycled sari silk on a cotton foundation. 1 weaver shared the loom for 2-4 months, working at roughly 200 knots per square inch. That gives a finished count of around 172 thousand hand-tied knots. The recycled silk yarn carried into the loom every colour the original saris held. No two carded batches are alike. That is the source of the chromatic depth the surface returns under any kind of light.
The composition
The pile shifts in colour from one inch to the next because the underlying yarn was never uniform to begin with. The composition is not a designed pattern so much as a controlled accident, with the ikat structure giving the field its order. The dominant tones run to blue, multi-colour.
What you are buying
An accessible point of entry into a hand-knotted carpet of real workshop discipline. The construction is the same as on the larger pieces in the same lineage; the price reflects only the smaller area of pile. The rug is meant to be used and conserved rather than displayed and protected.
The piece in a room
2' x 3' (61 x 91 cm) is the working scale for an entry, a bedside, or beneath a side chair. The piece reads as a small contained composition rather than a flooring element. The blue tones sit well against lime-washed plaster, raw oak, and warm metal.
Conservation
Light handling is the discipline. Suction vacuum, beater bar off. Half-turn rotation each spring and autumn. A professional hand wash on a five-year cycle. Blot spills, work from the edge inward. The rug is built to outlast a domestic life cycle if it is given that quiet attention.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
