Hand-woven runners belong to a different lineage from knotted carpets. They draw on the dhurrie and kilim flatweave traditions, where the design is built into the weft rather than knotted onto the warp, and the rug ends as a flat textile no thicker than a heavy blanket. The grey-and-rust palette in this runner is closer to the older Punjab dhurrie idiom than to the Persian kilim work, with broad colour blocks rather than fine tribal motifs. Sari silk threads woven through the wool ground give the rug its quiet shimmer.
One weaver worked the loom in India for around three weeks on this runner. The construction is weft-faced, meaning the visible surface is the weft passing over and under tensioned warps, with no pile. Wool was hand-spun in two colour states. Recycled sari silk was wound through the weft at intervals to introduce the lustre that gives the rug its character. The selvedges were finished with twined wool overcasting, the standard finish for a hand-woven flatweave.
The composition
Two main colour blocks dominate. A muted dove grey runs across most of the field; a band of rust orange interrupts and structures the composition. Threads of sari silk pass through both registers, catching light at unexpected angles. The flatweave construction means the colour reads as woven graphic rather than as pile mass; the geometry is quieter and more architectural than a knotted equivalent would be.
The piece in a room
3' x 5' (91 x 152 cm) is the right scale for a small mandir corner, a pooja room beside a low altar, the foot of a single bed, an entryway, or a small study under a chair. The grey-and-rust palette pairs with brass diyas and dark teak with no friction. The runner sits flat against tile or stone floors and adds a soft tonal layer without adding height.
Care
Vacuum on suction only or shake outdoors weekly. Flatweaves do not hold dust the way pile rugs do; a quick shake out is often enough between vacuums. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth from the outer edge inward. Spot clean only with cool water and a mild wool-safe detergent. Professional flatweave wash every three to four years preserves both the wool ground and the silk threads.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
