Jute is the oldest workable bast fibre on the subcontinent, spun and woven on the Bengal floodplains for thousands of years before it was named on the global commodity exchanges in the nineteenth century. The neutral palette is the current edit of that long vocabulary.
The dhurrie was hand-loomed in 2 weeks of bench time. The construction is weft-faced flat-weave, no pile, no knot, the design built into the structure of the cloth itself. The dye registers on jute / sisal sit deep into the fibre rather than as a surface coat, which is why the colour reads with the same depth on the back of the rug as on the front. Both faces are working surfaces; many households reverse the rug at the seasons to even out the wear and the light exposure.
The composition
A camel ground worked through with geometry the form has carried for two centuries. Flat-weave does not hide its construction; the visible weft is part of the design and reads as a deliberate textural element rather than as something to look past. The flat construction means the rug takes a few weeks to settle into the floor it lives on. The first month of use will produce a slight relaxation in the structure as the weave finds its working tension, after which the dimensions stabilise and the rug holds shape for years.
The piece in a room
4' × 6' (122 × 183 cm) works under a dining table, in a sun-filled corner, in a hallway with heavy traffic, or as a base layer with a smaller patterned rug stacked on top. The camel register sits well with cane furniture, painted plaster, and warm timber.
Care
Vacuum weekly with the beater bar off. Spot clean with mild soap on a clean cloth and blot dry. A flat-weave can be dry cleaned by a textile specialist every two to three years. Reverse seasonally to even out the wear; both faces are working surfaces and the rug benefits from rotation. Avoid extended direct sun on saturated areas of the dye, and use a thin underlay to keep the rug from sliding on hardwood or stone.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
