Moroccan tribal weaving emerged from a culture that did not separate the practical from the symbolic. The diamond carries protective meaning, the line marks lineage, the field stands for land. The mid-century European modernists who collected these rugs were drawn to the graphic discipline; the original makers built that discipline into objects of daily and ritual use. The piece carried into a contemporary room here is part of that long line.
2 weavers worked the loom over 4 months. Each knot was tied by hand with a hooked steel knife, the wefts passed and beaten into place with a heavy comb after every row. The dye lots were prepared in batches matched against a master skein to hold the colour consistent across the field. The piece is offered at 5' x 8' (152 × 244 cm) in a natural register, made in India.
The composition
Colour holds in the natural register. The pattern works because the negative space is allowed to breathe. The motifs hold their place, the field around them stays open, and the eye is given somewhere to rest between figures. That openness is what separates a good repeat from a busy one, and what allows the rug to sit under furniture without the pattern crowding the room. The wool is the carrier here, accepting the colour without flattening it and holding the slight variations of dye lot that read as life rather than as flaw.
What you are buying
Hand-knotted wool in this density is increasingly rare at this price point. The Indian workshops that still keep the weave alive are running on margins that have not moved in two decades, while the equivalent antique at a Western dealer trades at three to four times this number. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating, the property no machine production can claim.
The piece in a room
At 5' x 8' (152 × 244 cm) the rug holds a compact living arrangement, a smaller bedroom, or a defined seating corner. The colour pulls the surrounding furniture into composition with it. The format works equally under the foot of a bed and in front of a two-seater sofa, with the pattern reading as the considered ground the rest of the room arranges around.
Conservation
A half rotation each season equalises the ageing of the pile against light and traffic. Vacuum weekly, suction only, never with a beater bar. Blot spills, never rub. Hand-wash every five years by a conservator who understands wool foundations. The piece is built for at least three generations of use. Insurance is worth carrying on any hand-knotted carpet of this calibre, since the replacement value moves with the price of hand-spun wool and the dwindling supply of skilled weavers.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
