Complete your setup
The dhurrie flatweave drawing in this piece works because flatweave forces every line to commit. There is no pile to soften an edge, no carving to absorb a misjudged proportion. The graph either holds or it does not.
The piece was hand-woven in India by 1 weaver over 2 weeks on a horizontal floor loom. Jute fibre was beaten down between cotton warps with a wooden comb, one weft pick at a time, building the pattern from the bottom edge upward. Boucle-twist jute, low loop pile.
The composition
The palette is undyed natural and oat. Flatweave colour reads cleaner than pile colour because there is no surface depth to muddy the hue. The pattern sits flat against the floor like ink on paper rather than rising as texture. Each weft pass commits a single line of colour into the structure, and the joins between blocks of colour register as the small slits that mark every authentic kilim.
A weft-faced flatweave is reversible in pattern, which means the rug can be turned over to refresh the surface or to even out wear from sun and footfall. The construction is lighter than pile, easier to lift, and easier to clean. The piece travels well and stores compactly without the creasing risk a heavy knotted carpet carries.
The piece in a room
2'6" × 6' (76 × 183 cm) works as a kitchen runner, a corridor in a flat, or a passage in a home with high foot traffic. Flatweave handles continuous walking better than pile and washes more readily. The natural register holds in both daylight at one end of a corridor and lamplight at the other.
Care
Vacuum weekly on the lowest pile setting or with the beater bar off. Spot clean with cold water and mild detergent on a clean cotton cloth, blotting rather than rubbing. Flatweaves dry quickly because there is no pile to hold moisture. Professional cold-water wash every two to three years. Reverse the rug end-for-end annually so the wear distributes along the length and use an underlay if the surface tends to slip on smooth flooring.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
