Weft-faced weaving is the discipline of saying everything with one variable. The warp disappears under the colour the weaver lays in. The composition is built up in horizontal bands of intention, each row locking the last in place. The reverse face is the mirror of the front and remains usable in its own right.
This piece was hand-woven on a flat loom in India over roughly 5 weeks. The weft was packed by hand against the warp without a knot, building a tight reversible fabric that sits flush to the floor. The lavender register was dyed at the yarn before the weft entered the loom, which is what gives the colour its even depth and lets the field hold its register on both faces.
The composition
A repeating lattice over a lavender field with the cool clarity of dried bloom. The geometry is calm enough to disappear when the room is busy and assertive enough to hold the floor when the room is quiet. The relief between the lattice line and the field deepens as the pile settles. The colour will deepen by a quarter step over the first three years of use, the way wool dye always does as the surface oxidises and the fibre relaxes into the field.
The piece in a room
At 6' × 9' (183 × 274 cm) the rug carries a working living room, a king bedroom, or a six-seat dining table. The lavender field reads as a considered ground for upholstery and timber, not as the thing the room is about. Lighter walls push the colour forward as a focal field; deeper walls let it settle into the architecture as a quieter register. All four legs of a sectional can sit on top with breathing space around the perimeter, which is the canonical living-room placement at this scale. Reads against limewashed walls, plaster finishes, and stone-coloured paint in the cooler half of the spectrum.
Care
Vacuum on the lowest suction setting, weekly. Avoid beater bars, which catch the surface yarns. Spot clean with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. The rug is reversible and can be flipped to balance wear over the years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
