Hand tufting is the bridge between the slow precision of knotted work and the scale that contemporary interiors demand. Wool is pushed through a stretched canvas one row at a time, then trimmed by hand and finished at the back with natural latex. The result holds graphic punch the way a knotted piece holds reverence, at a price that does not require a museum budget.
This rug was hand-tufted in India over 3 weeks by a small team of two tufters and a finisher. Wool pulled through a stretched cotton canvas one row at a time, then bonded at the back with natural latex and a cotton scrim. The pile was sheared by hand at the end so the red field sits clean against any contour the design holds, and the rug was washed and dried flat to set the surface.
The composition
A composition built around a deep red field with the slow burn of madder-dyed wool. The pattern develops at a measured pace and the colour holds its register across the field. Two values of the same hue carry the field rather than one flat colour, which is why the rug holds attention without forcing it.
The piece in a room
At 3' × 5' (91 × 152 cm) the rug holds an entry vestibule, a small study, the foot of a bed, or a single armchair beside a window. It is the right scale to introduce the red palette into a room without forcing the rest of the furnishing to follow it. The pattern resolves close in and recedes at distance, which keeps the rug useful in rooms whose proportions are not generous. Reads against limewashed walls, plaster finishes, and stone-coloured paint in the cooler half of the spectrum.
Care
Vacuum weekly, beater bar off. Expect light shedding for the first six to eight weeks as loose fibre works free of the pile. Blot spills, never rub. Professional dry clean every two to three years. A tufted rug treated this way holds its weight and finish for ten to fifteen years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
