The flatweave is the oldest woven floor covering in the historical record. No pile, no knot, the pattern carried in the weft itself as the weaver moves the colour back and forth across the warp. The work was carried out in India across three weeks, with two weavers at a single horizontal loom. The weft is wool, the warp cotton, and the comb is brought down hard after each colour pass so the rug holds its drawing without slack. The finished piece is reversible and gains a soft burnish on the surface that is in regular use.
The composition
Green carries the field. The pattern is carried in the weft itself, which means the rug is reversible and the colour reads as honest structure rather than as surface treatment. The geometry softens with use rather than blurring, and the surface acquires a low sheen as foot traffic burnishes the wool.

A note on value: a flatweave at this scale represents weeks of focused loom time at a price per square foot that falls well below the equivalent knotted carpet. The construction is honest, the materials are visible, and the piece has none of the conservation overhead that a pile rug carries. It is the entry point to collecting hand-finished wool work.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.

Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
