The kilim and dhurrie traditions share a structural logic: the colour is the weft, the pattern is built without pile, and the rug reads as a flat composition rather than as a pile carpet. This piece carries that grammar, woven by hand in India on a horizontal floor loom set up in the courtyard or veranda of a working weaver's home.
The work was carried out in India across three weeks, with two weavers at a single horizontal loom. The weft is wool, the warp cotton, and the comb is brought down hard after each colour pass so the rug holds its drawing without slack. The finished piece is reversible and gains a soft burnish on the surface that is in regular use.
The composition
A brown ground built directly into the weave, with the pattern emerging from the structure rather than sitting on top of it. The piece is reversible and lies flat. Light traffic burnishes the surface rather than wearing it, and the geometry holds at any viewing distance from a standing eye.
On the weaving
A note on the wool: hand-spun yarn carries small variations in thickness and twist that no machine spinning can replicate. Those variations show up in the finished surface as a faint texture across the field, the visual signature of a piece made by hand rather than by a power loom. The colour is yarn-dyed before weaving, locking the pigment into the staple itself.
The piece in a room
The 5' × 8' (152 × 244 cm) format suits a primary bedroom or a medium living area. The brown palette holds against deep ivory, warm plaster, or a green-grey accent wall, and the rug pairs cleanly with walnut, oak, linen upholstery, leather without competing for the room. Layering a smaller wool or hide over a corner gives the room a second register without breaking the main field.
Care
Light vacuuming on suction only. Spot-clean spills with a damp cloth, working from the edge in toward the centre to keep the stain from spreading. Lift and air the rug outside twice a year. A flatweave is forgiving; rotate it end for end each season to even the wear, and use a thin pad underneath if the rug is going on a polished hard floor.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
