Rust and beige is the oldest mineral pairing in carpet weaving because both colours come out of the earth without alchemy. Iron-rich clays produce rust, undyed wool gives beige, and the two have shared a field together since the earliest knotted rugs we have surviving from antiquity. The Collete returns to that elemental palette and works it through a stylised Persian floral repeat that scatters across the field rather than radiating from a centre. The pattern uses no medallion. Instead, it allows the eye to settle wherever it lands, the way a meadow reads at any focal length.
This rug took three weavers about five months to complete in India. Roughly 1.6 million asymmetric knots tied by hand against the warps of a cotton foundation, then beaten down row by row with a wooden comb. The pile is yarn-dyed wool, dyed before spinning so the colour reaches the core of every fibre, and luster washed in the finishing yard so the saturation lands at the mellow tone of an aged piece rather than the brightness of a new commercial weave.
The composition
Rust here reads as brick rather than as fire, the saturation slightly cooled by the luster wash so it never competes with the wood tones around it. Beige carries the breathing room and pulls the rust into a balance with the walls and the upholstery. Wool spun this finely picks up directional light in a way that makes the rug appear to shift from chestnut to cinnamon depending on time of day. Over years of use the field will lighten subtly in traffic lanes, producing the natural patina collectors call abrash.
What you are buying
Equivalent Persian-tradition hand-knotted carpets at named Western dealers begin at three and a half lakh rupees and rise from there. The Collete is a new piece in the same tradition, on a cotton warp in India, in pure yarn-dyed wool. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating, and a hand-knotted wool carpet at this density holds resale value far longer than any furniture it sits with.
The piece in a room
8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) anchors a primary living room or a dining footprint of six to eight seats. Rust and beige carries walnut and oak floors. It pairs with leather upholstery, with linen slipcovers, and with rooms that already carry brass or aged copper. The palette warms a cooler room and steadies a warm room without overpowering it.
Conservation
Rotate one hundred and eighty degrees twice a year. Vacuum weekly on suction only. Address spills immediately with a clean cotton cloth, blotting only. A wool-trained hand wash every five to seven years preserves dye and foundation.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
