Classical floral drawing in the Persian tradition is governed by a single rule: every element on the field must answer to the medallion at the centre, even when the medallion is dissolved into the pattern rather than drawn as a hard form. The floral repeat carried in this rug obeys that rule. The composition is built on madder, faded indigo, and an undyed cream ground, the working palette of village weavers for four hundred years before synthetic dye displaced it in the late nineteenth century.
Three weavers shared the loom in India for roughly six months. Around 1.7 million Persian-asymmetric knots were tied row by row against a vertical beam. The wool was drawn from a long-staple fleece washed and combed before spinning, and each dye bath was prepared from plant matter and matured in copper vats for two to three weeks before the skein was lowered. The cream ground is undyed wool washed once and laid down without modification.
The composition
A cream field carries an all-over floral repeat in soft madder and faded indigo, with the pattern thickening at the centre toward an implied medallion rather than resolving into a hard one. A single deep indigo guard band closes the border without crowding the field. The colour will keep moving for a decade. The cream warms into bone, the madder lightens into terracotta, and the indigo deepens slowly toward navy. The rug is built to age rather than to hold a single moment.
What you are buying
Period vegetable-dyed floral carpets in this scale and density trade at international auction between twenty and forty-five thousand dollars when honest examples appear. This is a new weaving in the same tradition, on the same loom geometry, in the same fibre and dye process. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating, which is true of no other object you set on a floor.
The piece in a room
8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) sits naturally beneath the front edge of a sectional or under a six-to-eight seater dining table. The cream and madder palette works with walnut, oak, oxidised brass, and unbleached linen, and welcomes mid-tone painted walls rather than stark white. The floral drawing reveals its scale on approach and reads as a quiet ground at a distance.
Conservation
Rotate a half turn each spring and autumn so light and traffic age the wool evenly. Vacuum weekly with suction only, beater bar off. Blot any spill at once with a clean cotton cloth and cool water. A wool-trained conservator should hand-wash the rug every five years. The piece runs ninety years on a domestic floor with that care.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
