The classical Persian medallion is one of the oldest organising structures on a carpet. A central rosette, ground field, corner spandrels, multi-band border. The graph in this rug was redrawn from a seventeenth-century reference and adapted to current production. The brown palette is true to the historical vocabulary.

The composition reads at architectural scale rather than at the head-down, fingertip scale of a hand-tied carpet. The result is a rug that carries the visual signature of a Persian medallion design without the maintenance regime of one.

The studio worked the cartoon in chalk and ink at half scale before approving it for the loom. The proportions were tested against a sample run and corrected three times before commitment to production. The discipline behind a loom-finished rug sits in the front-end design work rather than in the weaving itself.

This is the Charity variant of the studio's seasonal release, sized to the working scale this format addresses.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene. The yarn is engineered so the colour is locked in by temperature rather than by surface dye, which is why the saturation does not fade under direct sunlight the way pigment printing fades. The fibre resists staining at the molecular level: spilled drinks, oil, and coffee lift with a damp cloth before they set. The pile stays flat under furniture and does not shed.

The composition

The field reads as brown from across the room and resolves into multiple lots of the same family on approach. The lots were prepared in matured baths over several weeks. The dye sat in the wool long enough to settle into the fibre rather than the surface, which is why the colour matures over time rather than fading. The borders are kept narrow so the eye is not pulled to the edges; the design holds in the field where it belongs. Under raking light the pattern lifts a fraction above the ground; under flat overhead light it settles into a single plane. Both readings are intended.

The piece in a room

5' × 8' (152 × 244 cm) is the canonical scale for a small living area, a primary bedroom, or under a four-seat dining table. The brown composition holds the room without claiming it. Mid-tone walls let the field settle; bright walls push it forward.

Care

Weekly vacuum, spot clean as needed with a damp cloth and mild detergent. The pile recovers from compression with light brushing. The colour is heat locked at the fibre level and does not fade under interior light or under the periodic exposure to sunlight that an inland Indian climate brings.

Day-to-day care

  • Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
  • Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
  • Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
  • Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.

Deep cleaning

  • Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
  • Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
  • For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.

Storage

  • Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
  • Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
  • Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked

How long will shipping take?

Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.

Will the colour exactly match the photo?

Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.

Can I get a sample before buying?

Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.

What is your returns process?

Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.

Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?

COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
