Red ground carpets occupy a particular place in the Persian repertoire because red is the most demanding colour to weave into a field and hold steady. Madder root, kermes, and lac dye each pull in slightly different tonal directions, and skilled workshops blend two or three to keep the field from turning either pink under daylight or brown under lamps. The Cadence draws on that knowledge to deliver a red ground that reads as warm earth rather than as a uniform pigment, with beige cartouches and ivory floral nodes worked through the pattern at restrained intervals.
Around 1.6 million Persian asymmetric knots, three weavers, five months on a vertical loom in India. The pile is pure yarn-dyed wool that has been spun fine for resolution and then luster washed once the rug is off the loom, the wash a deliberate ageing process that strips a percentage of surface dye and leaves the pile reading as if it has already lived in a home for a decade. The cotton foundation carries the weight of the wool flat through years of use without distorting the rectangle.
The composition
The red is layered. There are pulses of brick where the wool sits flat and faint shadows of garnet where the pile catches a different angle of light. Beige medallions and ivory florals work as breathing room rather than as competing focal points, which keeps the rug centred and readable from a distance. Over the next five years the red will lighten under direct sunlight and deepen in covered areas, producing the natural shading the trade calls abrash.
What you are buying
A new wool-on-cotton hand-knotted carpet in red ground at this density is roughly equivalent in materials and labour to a comparable piece sold by a Western retailer at three to four times the price. The carpet appreciates with use. There is no other object you place on a floor with that property.
The piece in a room
8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) reads at full living-room scale or under a six-to-eight seater dining table. Red grounds carry walnut, teak, and dark oak floors particularly well and pair without competition against off-white plaster walls. The carpet warms a north-facing room and steadies a south-facing room.
Conservation
Rotate the carpet one hundred and eighty degrees in spring and autumn so traffic patterns even out. Weekly suction vacuum, beater bar off. Tend immediately to any spill with a clean cotton cloth, working inward from the edge. Engage a wool-trained conservator every five to seven years for a hand wash, which restores brightness without damaging dye or foundation.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
