Rugsville Britney Abstract Multi Modern Carpet 5'3" x 7'8"

The composition came out of a long studio iteration that combined sketching by hand with digital pattern testing. The reference points are the geometric kilims of Anatolia, the colour studies of the Bauhaus, and the abstract carpets of the Scandinavian post-war school.

The composition runs through a multicolour register, with secondary tones picked up in the field geometry. The drawing breaks symmetry deliberately at the centre so the eye reads the rug as a single composed surface rather than a tile repeat. The colour is engineered for stability under direct light, which is the trade-off the format makes against the slow patina of wool. The studio worked the design across several rounds of paper revision before approving it for production, with the spacing of the geometry tuned to room scale rather than to a flat sample swatch.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene yarn. The dye is fused into the fibre during manufacture rather than dyed on at the surface, so the colour does not fade under window light or strong sunlight. Spills bead on the surface long enough to be lifted with a cloth. No shedding, no pile loss under chair legs, no fibre release into the room air.

The composition

The rug sits as the considered ground of a room rather than the focal motif. Pairs well with walnut, oak, brass, leather, and linen. Pairs poorly with strongly patterned upholstery; the multicolour field expects to be the only graphic in the composition. The fibre takes light differently from wool: flatter, less glossy, with a more uniform reading across the field, which is part of what makes the engineered yarn well suited to busy rooms.

The piece in a room

5' x 8' (152 x 244 cm). The size suits a medium living room, a primary bedroom under the bed and night tables, or a study set up around a partner desk. The piece tolerates rolling chair traffic, food spills, and weekly vacuuming without showing wear in the way a wool rug at the same price would.

Care

Vacuum weekly, suction or beater bar acceptable. Mild detergent and a damp cloth handle most spills inside the first ten minutes. The piece can be machine washed cold if needed and dries flat in a couple of hours. Professional cleaning is not required for the lifetime of the rug. The fibre handles repeated cleaning without losing colour or pile structure.
