The base is bleached to soften the original colour, then dipped in a single saturated dye that reads through the pattern as a unifying ground. The flatweave is the most versatile rug form in the household. Light enough to move, durable enough to take traffic, and visually disciplined enough to suit contemporary architecture without needing the depth of pile. The trade-off is the absence of softness underfoot, which is the deliberate aesthetic of the form.

Hand-woven in India by one weaver over roughly 3 weeks. The neutral field is built directly from coloured weft on a hidden warp, which is what makes a flatweave fully reversible and unusually disciplined as a graphic surface.
