Complete your setup
Beni Ourain weaving comes from the High Atlas, where mountain pastoralists built a shelter rug rather than a decorative one. Heavy ivory wool, a thin black diamond grid drawn freehand, no central medallion, no border. The result is a carpet that reads as architecture rather than ornament, which is why mid-century European architects, from Le Corbusier onward, kept reaching for it as the floor that would hold a Modernist room without competing with it.
This 8' x 10' interpretation was hand-knotted in India over roughly four months by three weavers sharing a vertical loom. The pile is undyed natural ivory wool, longer and looser than a Persian-density pile, finished at around 18 millimetres so the carpet sits like a fleece rather than a clipped textile. The black drawing is undyed dark fleece, not chemically darkened, which is why the contrast holds without fading.
The composition
An open ivory field with a black diamond lattice running the long axis, drawn loose enough that no two diamonds are identical and tight enough that the grid reads as a single continuous figure. The drawing carries the freehand wobble that distinguishes a knotted Beni Ourain from a tufted reproduction. The wool will yellow by perhaps two tones in the first decade as natural lanolin migrates to the surface, settling into the warm cream that defines an aged Beni.
What you are buying
Authentic vintage Beni Ourain carpets from the 1950s and 1960s now move through Western dealers at five to fifteen lakh rupees and rising. This is a new weaving in the same construction logic and the same fibre tradition. The carpet appreciates with use rather than depreciating, particularly with the natural patina the lanolin produces. The price reflects direct sourcing of wool and labour rather than a compromise on either.
The piece in a room
8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) sits as the primary floor in a living room with a three-seater sofa and a pair of chairs, or in a generous primary bedroom under the foot of the bed. The ivory holds light in low rooms and softens hard architecture. Pairs with leather, walnut, raw linen, and the cool palette of mid-century European furniture without effort.
Conservation
Shake out monthly if the rug is in a low-traffic room; vacuum weekly with the beater bar off otherwise. Spot-treat with cool water and a clean cotton cloth, never warm water, since hot water sets stains in lanolin-rich wool. Plan a professional hand-wash by a wool-trained conservator every five years. Treated this way the carpet runs forty to sixty years and ages into the cream tone the design is built to reach.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
