The overdyed colour wash, held here in green, is one of those design devices that survives because it carries the eye through the rug rather than asking it to stop in one place. The first carpets to use this device in any disciplined way came out of court ateliers, where the master designers worked from manuscript borders and architectural ornament. From there it filtered into village production and into the global trade.
This piece took 3 months on the loom. 3 weavers worked the surface together, hand-tying knots of green-toned wool over a cotton foundation. The finishing pass was done with hand shears to even the pile, and the rug was washed once with a mild plant-based solution before it was bound and rolled.
The composition
The overdyed colour wash runs across a green field. The single-tone composition lets the geometry do the work, and the wool's natural variation carries the eye. The colours are a starting point rather than a final state. The wool deepens, the contrasts soften, and the surface earns the patina that vegetable dye rewards over the years.
What you are buying
This is an entry point to collecting hand-knotted wool work. Comparable pieces in the dealer trade carry margins that double or triple this number. The rug holds value in use, which makes it the rare floor object that earns its keep and gains character at the same time.
The piece in a room
At 6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) the rug sits under a coffee table with a sofa floating along one edge, or fills a primary bedroom under the bed and bedside tables. The palette has the depth a wool dye carries that a printed alternative never reaches. It sits next to mid-tone wood and warm metal without effort. Calm upholstery lets the geometry breathe; busy upholstery suppresses it.
Conservation
An underlay matched to the rug's footprint stops slip on hard floors and adds years to the foundation. Rotate end for end at the change of the seasons. Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged. Press spills out with a dry cotton cloth before introducing any water. Send the rug for a wool-trained hand-wash every five to seven years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
