Abstract line work in carpet design carries through from the Bauhaus weaving workshop under Gunta Stölzl to the post-war Scandinavian floor pieces of Märta Måås-Fjetterström. A few drawn marks, a held ground, no surplus. The discipline took a generation to mature into the language we now think of as modern.
This rug speaks that language. The drawing is restrained, the green field carries the weight, and the figure is held to the minimum that lets the composition resolve. The piece is built to live with art rather than to compete with it.
This rug was hand-tufted in India over 4 to 5 weeks by a small team of two tufters and a finisher. New Zealand wool was pushed through a stretched cotton canvas one row at a time with a tufting tool, then sealed at the back with natural latex and a cotton scrim that locks the pile and keeps the rug stable on the floor. The final pass was done with hand shears to relieve the drawing above the ground by a measured fraction of a centimetre, which is the detail that makes the pattern read at room scale.
The composition
A field in green, a pattern carried in a complementary tone, an unornamented edge. The drawing was committed to a stretched canvas first, then tufted in row by row, then sheared so the figure sits about two millimetres below the field. That relief is what makes the pattern read across a room rather than dissolving into the pile.
The piece in a room
The piece is sized as listed and works as a defined zone within a larger room. Green as the carrying tone pairs cleanly with both warm and cool wood floors and reads against painted plaster as well as it does against exposed brick. Place a low coffee table inside the field, with the front legs of upholstery tracking the edge of the rug, to keep the composition coherent. The drawing rewards approach, so a position near a circulation path is preferable to a position tucked under furniture where the figure is hidden.
Care
Vacuum gently, beater bar disengaged. Use cold water and a clean cloth on accidental spills, working from the edges inward. A rotation twice a year evens out the traffic pattern. Dry-clean the rug professionally every two to three years rather than wet-cleaning at home.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
