Antiquity as a design vocabulary leans on faded vegetable colour, soft drawings, and an open field that suggests a rug already aged on the day it leaves the loom. The look comes out of nineteenth-century village weaving and was reinterpreted by twentieth-century dealers for collectors who wanted that quiet quality without waiting for forty years of light to produce it. The Antiquity Green Ivory carpet in front of you continues that line.
Two to three weavers in India spent close to four months at the loom. The cartoon was an open antiquity-style floral, drawn loosely so the wool would show through the design, and the dye lot was kept narrow with low-saturation natural and natural-style chemistry. The pile was clipped low after weaving so the rug carries the worn-down quality of an older field rather than the deep plush of a new one.
The composition
An ivory ground carries soft green vine work and dropped olive accents, with the border picked out in close values rather than in contrast. The whole rug reads as if light has already worked on it for several decades, which is the antiquity brief. As the wool ages, the ivory will warm toward bone and the green will settle a shade darker, deepening the hand of the surface.
What you are buying
Genuine antique carpets in this register and condition surface at Christie's, Skinner, and Bonhams in the range of fifteen to thirty thousand US dollars when they appear. This is a contemporary weaving on the same loom, in the same fibre, finished to the same low pile and soft palette. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating, which is the durable basis of value in any serious hand-finished floor.
The piece in a room
6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) holds a primary seating area or a six-seat dining set. The soft green and ivory palette pairs with limewashed cream walls, putty plaster, oak and walnut floors, brass and oxidised steel, and undyed linen upholstery. The rug works as a quiet ground rather than as a focal object.
Conservation
Vacuum weekly with suction only. Rotate end-to-end at the change of seasons. Blot spills with absorbent cotton, never rub. A wool conservator should wash the rug every five to seven years. The piece expects an eighty-year service life on this regimen.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
