The composition is built around an open ground and a quietly drawn medallion. Everything else in the rug works in service of those two elements, which is the discipline that separates the antique Persian language from its later commercial imitators. The drawing is village in its angular vine work and court in its restraint at the border, a synthesis the best Persian weaving has always allowed. The vegetable dye palette is entirely period: madder root, fermented indigo, oak gall, and walnut hull, with no synthetic colour anywhere in the wool.
The loom was shared in India by three weavers over roughly six months. Around 1.7 million Persian-asymmetric knots were tied by feel against a vertical beam, the dye baths prepared in copper vats and matured for two to three weeks before the skeins were lowered. The wool itself is long-staple fleece washed and combed before spinning, chosen because the staple takes plant dye evenly without losing the small variation that reads as patina later.
The composition
A soft cream ground carries a faded madder medallion at the centre, with vine work in indigo and walnut moving through the field. The corner spandrels echo the medallion at a smaller scale, and a single deep indigo guard band closes the border. The colour will keep shifting for a decade. The cream warms toward bone, the madder lightens into terracotta, and the indigo deepens. The rug is built to age rather than to hold a single moment, and it gathers character with every year of use.
What you are buying
Antique Persian carpets in honest condition and comparable scale trade between twenty-five and fifty thousand dollars at Western auction houses. This is a new weaving in the same village tradition, in the same fibre, in the same dye process and at the same density. The rug appreciates with use rather than depreciating, a property that holds for nothing else you set down on a floor.
The piece in a room
8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) sits naturally in a primary living area beneath the front of a sectional or under a six-seater dining table with an even reveal. The cream ground works with walnut and oak floors, with white and mid-tone walls, and with both leather and linen upholstery. The medallion holds the eye at a distance without crowding wall art above it.
Conservation
Rotate a half turn each spring and autumn. Vacuum weekly with suction only and the beater bar off. Blot any spill at once with a clean cotton cloth and water. A wool-trained conservator should hand-wash the rug every five to seven years. With this care the piece runs ninety years on a domestic floor and outlives its first owners.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
