Flatweave construction predates pile by several centuries. The weft passes over and under the warp without a knot, building a tight, reversible fabric that lies flush to the floor. The technique is plain. The compositions it produces are not. A flatweave reads as a graphic field rather than as a pile carpet, which is why it sits so easily inside contemporary architecture.
This piece was hand-woven on a flat loom in India over roughly 6 weeks. The weft was packed by hand against the warp without a knot, building a tight reversible fabric that sits flush to the floor. The blue register was dyed at the yarn before the weft entered the loom, which is what gives the colour its even depth and lets the field hold its register on both faces.
The composition
Stepped diamonds and banded geometry over a saturated blue with a faint green shift from the over-dye bath. The flatweave grammar reads as a graphic field, every transition resolved as a clean line of weft. The reverse face mirrors the front and remains usable in its own right. Light moves across the field through the day; the morning sun pulls warmth out of the wool and the evening lamp reads it as a deeper register of the same hue.
The piece in a room
At 8' × 10' (244 × 305 cm) the rug carries a working living room, a king bedroom, or a six-seat dining table. The blue field reads as a considered ground for upholstery and timber, not as the thing the room is about. Lighter walls push the colour forward as a focal field; deeper walls let it settle into the architecture as a quieter register. All four legs of a sectional can sit on top with breathing space around the perimeter, which is the canonical living-room placement at this scale. Holds its own next to large-scale art and works against a single accent piece rather than a busy gallery wall.
Care
Suction vacuuming on a low setting, weekly. The flatweave construction is reversible, which means the rug can be flipped to extend its life. Blot spills with a clean cloth. Hand wash with cold water and a mild wool detergent for spot care.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
