The geometric field traces back to the workshops of central and western Persia, where master weavers of the nineteenth century reduced the dense floral repeats of court carpets into open, breathable fields better suited to the long winters of an Anglo-Indian drawing room. The drawing in this carpet keeps that lineage. It is restrained where lesser interpretations turn busy, and the negative space is treated as a compositional element rather than a gap.
2 weavers shared the loom for around 4 months. About 559,786 hand-tied knots, every one set against a vertical beam in wool on a cotton foundation. The weave is the asymmetric Persian knot, finished with hand shearing to bring the pile into a single even plane.
The composition
The palette runs through ivory, oat, and faded ochre. Colour does not sit flat. Hand-spun wool reads slightly differently bay to bay across the field, the kind of abrash that gives a hand-knotted carpet its depth and that no machine reproduction can fake. Over the next decade the saturated tones will soften and the pale grounds will warm, the carpet settling into the look that buyers of good antique pieces are paying for in the first place.
What you are buying
Comparable hand-knotted weavings at this density and fibre, when offered through Western dealers, sit several multiples above this price once import duty, gallery margin, and conservation premiums are added. Bought directly from the loom in India, the cost reflects the wool, the dye, the months of work, and very little else. A piece of this kind appreciates with use rather than depreciating. There is no other object you place on a floor with that property.
The piece in a room
At 2'6" x 13' (76 x 396 cm), the carpet sets the proportion for a sofa-and-two-chairs grouping, a four to six seat dining setup, or the foot of a primary bed depending on how it is laid. It pairs with walnut, oak, brass, leather, and unbleached linen. Walls in lime wash or chalk hold the field; saturated walls let it settle as a tonal floor.
Conservation
Rotate the carpet a half turn each spring and autumn so light and footfall age the pile evenly. Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged. Blot any spill with a clean cotton cloth, working from the edge inward, never rubbing. A hand wash by a wool-trained conservator every five to seven years restores lustre and lifts compacted dust from the foundation. Maintained this way, a hand-knotted carpet outlasts its first owners and reaches the next generation in better condition than it left the loom.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
