Tribal carpets that combine rust and gold belong to a long tradition of nomadic weaving where the dyer used what the land provided. Madder root for the rust, weld and pomegranate skin for the gold, both colours warm in the same key so the rug reads as a single sunlit ground rather than as a contrast field. The Aiden draws on that tradition with serrated diamond medallions, hooked anchors at the corners, and small protective motifs scattered through the body of the field. The geometry holds the loose rhythm of a hand draughtsman rather than the precision of a graph paper plot.
Three weavers spent around five months on the loom in India. Roughly 1.6 million asymmetric knots, hand-tied on a cotton warp, then beaten down row by row with a wooden comb. The wool is yarn-dyed before spinning, which sends colour deep into the fibre, and luster washed in the finishing yard so the saturation lands at the antiqued tone tribal collectors prize. The pile finishes at eleven millimetres.
The composition
The rust ground catches directional light at a slightly different angle from the gold motif, which is why the geometry seems to lift off the field rather than sit flush against it. Wool spun this finely produces an internal reflectivity that synthetic fibre cannot reach, lending the rug the slight lustre old Persian rugs carry under good lighting. Over years the rust will lighten in traffic lanes and hold its depth at the borders, producing natural shading.
What you are buying
Genuine tribal-tradition hand-knotted carpets in Western dealer catalogues run from three and a half to seven lakh rupees in this size. The Aiden is a new weaving in the same vocabulary, on a cotton foundation in India, in pure yarn-dyed wool. Hand-knotted wool at this density appreciates with use rather than depreciating, and the carpet outlives the room it first enters.
The piece in a room
8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) reads at full living-room scale and works under a six-seater dining table. Rust and gold carries walnut floors, teak furniture, and brass hardware effortlessly. It pairs without strain against off-white plaster walls and against linen-upholstered seating. The palette is forgiving with rooms that already hold autumn tones in art or textiles.
Conservation
Rotate the carpet twice a year so the wear distributes across the field. Vacuum weekly with suction only, beater bar disengaged. Address spills immediately with a clean cotton cloth, blotting from the outside in. Schedule a professional wool wash every five to seven years through a conservator trained in hand-knotted carpets.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
