The Agra workshops of the Mughal era set a benchmark for floor weaving that persisted long after the courts dissolved. Their later versions, produced under Anglo-Indian patronage in the nineteenth century, kept the disciplined floral language but loosened the borders so the carpets could read across larger Western rooms. The pattern under your feet here is a continuation of that lineage, translated to a circular field where the geometry has to fold in on itself rather than run to a corner.
Three weavers spent close to six months on the loom, tying knots radially toward a centred rosette. The pile is hand-spun wool sourced and processed in India, with the warp and weft carrying the same fibre rather than the cotton foundation typical of rectangular pieces. Vegetable dye baths in madder, indigo, and walnut hull set the beige ground and the ochre, terracotta, and slate accents that pick out the floral arabesques.
The composition
A still beige field washes outward from a small medallion. The vinework reads as soft pencil rather than ink, the colours sitting close in value so the eye reads the whole circle as a single plane. Multi-tone accents in muted brick and dusk blue surface only on second look. The wool will lighten by half a tone over its first decade, and the warmer colours will deepen, settling the rug into the room rather than competing with it.
What you are buying
Round Agras in this scale rarely surface at auction, and when they do, condition-graded pieces from the early twentieth century clear thirty to forty thousand US dollars at Sotheby's and Skinner. This is a new weaving on the same draw and density, in hand-spun wool, vegetable-dyed in India. The price reflects the labour and the fibre rather than a brand premium. The piece appreciates with use rather than depreciating.
The piece in a room
8' round (244 cm diameter) is the canonical scale for a foyer under a chandelier, a circular dining table seating six, or a reading corner anchored by a wing chair and an arc lamp. The beige ground accepts both warm and cool architecture, and the round geometry softens square rooms in a way no rectangular rug manages. Pairs well with walnut, brass, and unbleached linen.
Conservation
Rotate a quarter turn each season so foot traffic and light wear in evenly across the circumference. Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged, suction only. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth, never rub. A trained wool conservator should hand-wash the rug every five to seven years. With this care, the carpet runs eighty years and outlives its first owners.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
