Round Zieglers are a strange object historically. The original 1880s commissions were almost all rectangles for British drawing rooms; the round was an Indian and Indo-Persian adaptation that came later, when American buyers wanted a piece that softened the corners of a rectilinear plan. Beige and rust is the most enduring of the Ziegler colour schemes because it does not date.
This six-foot round was completed by three weavers over roughly four months on a vertical loom. Hand-spun wool was tied with the asymmetric Persian knot onto a cotton warp, then sheared low so the angular vine work and palmette fragments hold their drawing under traffic. The circumference was hand-bound at completion. The total knot count is in the millions for a piece this size, every node placed by feel against the warp.
The composition
Beige, the architectural decision, holds the field at conversational saturation. Rust enters through the vine and accent palmettes, never declaring itself but always present. The drawing is loose and centred, with a single central rosette anchoring the round geometry. Beige rugs warm with light; rust deepens with age. The colour the rug shows now is the rug at its most reserved.
What you are buying
Round Zieglers in this calibre rarely reach Western auction; when they do, they list at Rs 5 to 12 lac. Comparable new gallery weavings in hand-spun wool on cotton foundation sit at the Rs 2.76 lac MSRP this piece carries. A hand-knotted wool round at this density appreciates rather than depreciates with use, which is the structural argument for buying it instead of a tufted equivalent.
The piece in a room
6' (183 cm) round suits a circular dining table seating four to six, an entry hall under a pendant, or the central anchor of a curved sectional or four-chair conversation grouping. Round geometry interrupts a room grid. Pair with brass, walnut, leather, and limewashed plaster. Avoid pairing with strongly patterned upholstery.
Conservation
Quarter-turn each season for even ageing. Suction-only weekly vacuuming, beater bar off. Blot spills, do not rub. Conservator hand-wash every five to seven years. With this regime the rug runs eighty years and outlives the room it was bought for.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
