The villages around Heriz in northwest Iran developed a bold, large-scale geometric reading of classical Persian medallion design, woven on cotton foundations heavy enough to handle a generation of traffic. The neutral reading in this piece sits in the contemporary end of that arc.
A single hand worked the piece for 3 months at the vertical loom. Around 389K knots, each one tied by hand against a vertical beam. The wool is fine-micron New Zealand fleece, the long staple chosen because it spins to a smooth, even yarn that takes vegetable colour without the patchiness that lower-grade fibre produces. Plant-dye preparation took weeks rather than hours, the madder, indigo, weld, and tannin baths matured under controlled temperature in copper vessels before the wool was drawn through.
The composition
The field reads in blue and rust with secondary movement that comes from the irregularity of the hand-spun yarn rather than from a pattern repeat. The patina the rug acquires over a decade is the part the contemporary trade cannot reproduce. It is the reason serious collectors buy at this density and this fibre.
What you are buying
The figure of ₹21,599 is set against the months of bench time the piece took to make. The price is essentially the cost of the labour and the fibre; equivalent work in any Western dealer inventory carries a structural multiple on top.
The piece in a room
3' × 5' (91 × 152 cm) is an accent piece, sized for an entryway, a reading corner, the area at the foot of a bed, or the floor between two facing chairs. The blue and rust concentrates the eye in a small footprint.
Conservation
Rotation at the change of seasons keeps the wear even. Vacuum on suction only. Blot any liquid immediately with white cotton. The rug needs a wool-trained hand wash every five to seven years and no other intervention. Eighty to a hundred years of life is realistic at this density.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
