The classical Persian carpet vocabulary was codified across the long Safavid and Qajar centuries in workshops from Tabriz to Kerman, the medallion and arabesque patterns that the European interior absorbed beginning in the seventeenth century. This rug works the neutral side of that historical palette.
Three weavers sat the bench for 5 months, working in coordinated rows. Around 1.0 million knots, each one tied by hand against a vertical beam. The wool is fine-micron New Zealand fleece, the long staple chosen because it spins to a smooth, even yarn that takes vegetable colour without the patchiness that lower-grade fibre produces. Dye work followed the slow vegetable method passed down through generations of dye masters: madder root for the reds, fermented indigo for the blues, oak gall and walnut for the brown family.
The composition
The composition runs in black across the field with corner work that turns the eye back inward. The dye registers will move with light and traffic. A vegetable-dyed pile is not a finished surface; it is a starting point that the next twenty years complete.
What you are buying
₹23,999 is the democratic entry point to hand-knotted collecting, a tier the workshop produces for buyers who want serious hand-tied work without the auction-grade premium. The labour content alone, distributed across the bench time on the loom, anchors the figure.
The piece in a room
4' × 4' (122 × 122 cm) is the working scale for a study, a smaller seating area, a bedroom with the rug under the bed turned ninety degrees so it shows on three sides. The black answers warm timber as readily as it answers stone or polished concrete.
Conservation
Half-turn rotation twice a year. Suction-only vacuuming, weekly. White-cotton blotting on any spill, never rubbing. A wool-trained conservator should hand-wash the rug every five years to keep the dye registers fresh. With this discipline the carpet runs a century in continuous household use.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
