Complete your setup
An ivory-ground Heriz is a quieter object than its red cousin and a more difficult one to weave. The dyer has to coax madder and walnut hull into the soft, paled tones the field needs without losing depth in the medallion, and the cartoon has to give the angular geometry enough body to read against the bone background. The Ivory Beige Heriz in front of you sits inside that disciplined village tradition.
Around four months at the loom for two to three weavers in India. The drawing is squared off and read knot by knot from a graphed cartoon, which is what gives the medallion its honest, slightly stepped silhouette. New Zealand wool takes the soft beige and the warmer ochre tones of the medallion to the depth a Heriz palette requires without going chalky.
The composition
A stepped medallion in faded rust and walnut sits on an ivory field, with quiet beige corner pieces and a single restrained guard band. The whole rug reads as a study in close values rather than as a contrast piece. The ivory will warm toward bone over a decade of light and the rust will settle a shade deeper, which is when the carpet begins to look like its older relatives.
What you are buying
Ivory-ground antique Heriz pieces in equivalent size and condition surface at Christie's, Skinner, and Rippon Boswell at twenty to forty thousand US dollars and the soft palette is the rarer find. This new weaving uses the same loom, the same fibre, and the same Persian-asymmetric knot. The piece gains depth with use rather than losing it, which is the property that justifies the kind of price an old Heriz commands.
The piece in a room
6' x 9' (183 x 274 cm) suits a measured seating arrangement, a four-to-six-seat dining table, or a generous primary bedroom. The bone field reflects warm interior light and pulls forward against putty walls and grey limewash. Walnut and oiled oak read especially well below it. The carpet does not enjoy direct competition from heavily patterned upholstery.
Conservation
Vacuum weekly, suction only, beater bar off. Rotate end-to-end twice a year. Blot spills with cotton, never rub. A wool conservator should hand-wash the carpet every five to seven years to lift compacted dust. With this care the rug expects a service life north of eighty years.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
