Complete your setup
About 4.5 lakh hand-tied knots. Around five months of work for two weavers sharing the loom. The Beni Ourain palette in front of you has been at the centre of European design conversation since the architect Adolf Loos began collecting Berber pieces in the 1920s and Le Corbusier hung one in his Cabanon. The hand-spun ivory ground crossed by sparse charcoal diamonds is one of the few patterns that reads as both deeply traditional and unmistakably modern, which is why it survives every cycle of taste.
This 8' x 10' (244 x 305 cm) carpet was woven on an upright loom in India by two weavers across roughly five months. The wool is hand-spun, which means each yarn is slightly thicker or thinner than the next, giving the surface its variegated texture. The pile sits at around 7 mm. The diamond lines are worked in directly during the knotting process from charcoal-coloured wool, not painted or applied later.
The composition
A field of uneven beige, the variegation visible in a grazing light. Soft black diamonds running across the surface in a loose net, deliberately imprecise. The lines do not meet at strict ninety-degree angles. The pattern was held in the weavers' memory rather than worked from a graph. That is why authentic Beni rugs read differently from factory imitations: the geometry breathes.
What you are buying
Vintage Berber Beni Ourains of this scale at Western dealers like Mehraban or Doris Leslie Blau price between $5,500 and $12,000 depending on age. This is a new piece in the same lineage, woven on the same kind of loom, in the same hand-spun fibre, by weavers trained in the same Berber technique. Hand-knotted wool of this quality gains warmth and definition over its first decade of use as the lanolin migrates to the surface and the pile softens.
The piece in a room
The 8' x 10' format is the working scale for a primary bedroom or a medium living area. The Beni belongs against pale walls, lime-wash, plaster, or warm white. It pairs naturally with walnut, oak, blackened steel, woven leather, and unbleached linen. The neutrality is the design. Strong patterned upholstery would clash; the rug expects to set the tone of the room rather than respond to it.
Conservation
Rotate the carpet a half turn twice a year to balance the wear pattern. Vacuum weekly with the beater bar off, especially for shag-pile work where a beater bar will tear hand-spun yarn over time. Shake out the rug seasonally where size permits. A specialist wool hand wash every five to six years will lift the embedded dust the vacuum cannot reach.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
