Geometry on a loom is harder than it looks. A diagonal is built one knot offset at a time, which is why a hand-knotted geometric rug carries a quality of deliberate line that printed and machine work cannot. The studio worked the design through several drafts before approving it for production, treating the loom as a printing press for textile rather than as a substitute for handwork. The result is a rug whose value sits in the drawing rather than in the hours of labour, and whose price reflects the discipline of process rather than the scarcity of material.

The composition

The drawing sits in a blue ground organised so that the eye moves across the field. Density tightens at the centre and opens toward the edges. The colour is locked in at the loom rather than printed on top, which is why it holds against light and traffic without the dulling that surface treatment shows after a few seasons. Density runs around 600,000 to 800,000 points per square metre, fine enough to hold the blue drawing in detail without losing the flat, contemporary surface that defines the idiom.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene chosen for its colour-fastness and its resistance to crushing under furniture. Stains lift with a damp cloth, light does not bleach the dye, and the pile holds shape through years of household traffic.

The piece in a room

5'3" × 7'6" (160 × 229 cm) is the working scale for a primary bedroom, a flat-scale living area, or a dining setting for four to six. The blue drawing pairs with walnut, oak, brass, leather, and linen, and holds at a distance while rewarding close looking.
