Modern carpet design as it exists today emerged in the gap left by mid-century European and American abstraction reaching back to the textile traditions of Asia for a vocabulary the painters could not invent on canvas.
The pattern was drawn over months in the studio before the file was prepared for the loom, the colour separations checked at full scale on hand-printed proofs to confirm how the geometry would read at room distance. The drawing carries the slow, considered quality of studio work rather than the algorithmic regularity of pattern generated by software. The composition was settled by eye against a full-scale paper proof before the file went to production.
The fibre
Heat-set polypropylene yarn, the colour set by temperature rather than dyed onto the surface. UV does not bleach the pile, foot traffic does not crush it under furniture legs, and most household spills lift before they have a chance to bond to the fibre. A domestic cool machine wash returns the rug to factory-fresh appearance if a spill resists spot cleaning. This tier exists because not every floor in a house can absorb the cost of a hand-knotted piece, and the rooms that take the most traffic are usually the rooms that least suit one. The construction was developed for those rooms specifically.
The composition
The palette runs through ivory, the field opening to negative space at the borders so the design breathes against the floor. The geometry holds at room distance and reveals the pattern logic only on approach. The colour family stays steady through changing daylight; heat-set yarn does not carry the directional shading that makes a wool pile read warmer or cooler from different angles.
The piece in a room
5'3" × 7'6" (160 × 229 cm) suits a hallway, a study, a sitting area in a larger flat, or a dining footprint. The ivory answers both painted and exposed brick walls, and the heat-set fibre absorbs the chair-leg movement under a dining table without crushing.
Care
Weekly vacuum, beater bar on or off. Spot clean with detergent and water. The fibre does not absorb stains; surface treatment lifts most household incidents. A cold machine wash handles the rest.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
