Rugsville Isabella Multi Floral Transitional Carpet 5'3" x 7'8"

The botanical vocabulary of Persian and Mughal carpet design was codified in the sixteenth century court workshops, a pattern language built from arabesque, palmette, and split leaf. The neutral reading in this piece sits in the contemporary end of that arc.

The composition was developed in a contemporary textile studio working in conversation with the historical pattern library, the design refined through several rounds of full-scale paper proofs before the final cartoon was released to production. The colour relationships were tested across multiple proofs to confirm that the multi-tone would hold its weight against both warm and cool ambient light. The piece reads consistently in north-facing rooms and in rooms lit by warm incandescent at evening.

The fibre

The fibre is heat-set polypropylene, engineered so colour is locked in by temperature during extrusion rather than applied as a surface dye. The result is a pile that does not fade in direct sun and resists liquid stains by surface tension rather than by chemical treatment. Pet and child households absorb the kind of incident that would force a wool piece into a specialist clean. This tier exists because not every floor in a house can absorb the cost of a hand-knotted piece, and the rooms that take the most traffic are usually the rooms that least suit one. The construction was developed for those rooms specifically.

The composition

A composition built around the interaction of multi-tone, with secondary tones in lighter and darker registers separating the motifs. The geometry is designed to read at distance as a coherent ground and on approach as a layered pattern. Pairs with walnut, brass, leather, linen, and warm timber floors; pairs less well with strongly patterned upholstery, the rug expects to be the only graphic element in the composition.

The piece in a room

5'3" × 7'8" (160 × 234 cm) is the working scale for living rooms in flats, dining areas under a six-seater table, primary bedrooms, and corridors with foot traffic the wool tier would not survive. The multi-tone reads at distance and reveals the pattern detail on approach. Position the front legs of the seating onto the rug and leave a perimeter of bare floor as a frame.

Care

Vacuum as routine. Spot clean immediately with water and mild soap. Heat-set fibre does not require professional cleaning at any point in normal household use, and the piece tolerates a cold machine cycle for incidents that resist spot work.
