Rugsville Indigo Black Oriental Persian Carpet 5'3" x 8'

Persian carpet design ran on a continuous workshop tradition from at least the sixteenth century, the formal vocabulary settled by court ateliers and circulated by drawing through the village looms of the next four centuries. The neutral palette is the current edit of that long vocabulary.

The studio worked the design in graphite and ink for three to four months before approving it for production, the cartoon then translated into the digital file the loom reads as a colour-by-position grid. The colour relationships were tested across multiple proofs to confirm that the black and indigo would hold its weight against both warm and cool ambient light. The piece reads consistently in north-facing rooms and in rooms lit by warm incandescent at evening.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene. The yarn carries colour set by temperature rather than by surface dye, the saturation locked at the molecular level so direct sunlight does not bleach the field the way pigment-printed fibre fades. Spilled wine, juice, oil, or coffee lift with a damp cloth before they set. The pile holds shape under furniture without crushing. The construction sits at a price and care point that suits the rooms in a household where life happens at velocity. The design quality matches the wool tier; the maintenance contract does not.

The composition

A composition built around the interaction of black and indigo, with secondary tones in lighter and darker registers separating the motifs. The geometry is designed to read at distance as a coherent ground and on approach as a layered pattern. Pairs with walnut, brass, leather, linen, and warm timber floors; pairs less well with strongly patterned upholstery, the rug expects to be the only graphic element in the composition.

The piece in a room

At 5'3" × 7'8" (160 × 234 cm) the rug carries an open-plan living area or a bedroom with the bed positioned across it so the rug shows on three sides. The pile is dense enough to feel underfoot and shallow enough that doors clear without dragging.

Care

Weekly vacuuming is enough. Most spills lift with a damp cloth and a small amount of mild detergent. The rug accepts a cool machine wash for stubborn marks and dries flat in a few hours. No specialist cleaning needed.
