Complete your setup
Gabbeh weavings emerged from the Qashqai and Luri nomads of southern Iran, sleeping rugs first, decorative objects only by accident of how the West read them. The piece in front of you carries that vocabulary into a neutral register.
The studio worked the design in graphite and ink for three to four months before approving it for production, the cartoon then translated into the digital file the loom reads as a colour-by-position grid. The colour relationships were tested across multiple proofs to confirm that the ivory would hold its weight against both warm and cool ambient light. The piece reads consistently in north-facing rooms and in rooms lit by warm incandescent at evening.
The fibre
The pile is heat-set polypropylene, an engineered fibre where colour is fixed at the moment of extrusion. UV does not lift the saturation, traffic does not pull the pile flat, and household spills are a wipe rather than a panic. Maintenance is closer to a hard floor than to a wool carpet. This tier exists because not every floor in a house can absorb the cost of a hand-knotted piece, and the rooms that take the most traffic are usually the rooms that least suit one. The construction was developed for those rooms specifically.
The composition
A composition built around the interaction of ivory, with secondary tones in lighter and darker registers separating the motifs. The geometry is designed to read at distance as a coherent ground and on approach as a layered pattern. Pairs with walnut, brass, leather, linen, and warm timber floors; pairs less well with strongly patterned upholstery, the rug expects to be the only graphic element in the composition.
The piece in a room
5'3" × 7'6" (160 × 229 cm) works in a living room with sectional seating, in a bedroom under a king bed, in a study with a large desk, or in an open kitchen where moisture and traffic would damage a wool piece. The ivory pulls cleanly through both daylight and lamplight.
Care
Vacuum weekly. Spot clean with mild detergent on a clean cloth. Machine wash on a cold 30°C cycle if a spill resists spot cleaning, then air dry flat. No professional cleaning required at any point in the working life of the rug.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
