Modern carpet design as it exists today emerged in the gap left by mid-century European and American abstraction reaching back to the textile traditions of Asia for a vocabulary the painters could not invent on canvas. This rug works the neutral side of that historical palette.
The composition was developed in a contemporary textile studio working in conversation with the historical pattern library, the design refined through several rounds of full-scale paper proofs before the final cartoon was released to production. The colour relationships were tested across multiple proofs to confirm that the multi-tone would hold its weight against both warm and cool ambient light. The piece reads consistently in north-facing rooms and in rooms lit by warm incandescent at evening.
The fibre
The pile is engineered polypropylene, the colour locked in by heat-setting during yarn extrusion. The fibre does not absorb stains, does not crush under furniture legs, and does not fade in sunlight the way pigment-treated wool gradually does. This tier exists because not every floor in a house can absorb the cost of a hand-knotted piece, and the rooms that take the most traffic are usually the rooms that least suit one. The construction was developed for those rooms specifically.
The composition
The pattern works in multi-tone across the field, asymmetric weighting in the figure work so the eye moves rather than landing on a single point. The piece reads as a considered composition rather than as a repeating tile. Pairs cleanly with mid-century furniture, with painted plaster walls, and with the cooler register of stone and polished concrete floors.
The piece in a room
At 5'3" × 7'10" (160 × 239 cm) the rug carries an open-plan living area or a bedroom with the bed positioned across it so the rug shows on three sides. The pile is dense enough to feel underfoot and shallow enough that doors clear without dragging.
Care
Vacuum as routine. Spot clean immediately with water and mild soap. Heat-set fibre does not require professional cleaning at any point in normal household use, and the piece tolerates a cold machine cycle for incidents that resist spot work.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
