The classical Persian carpet vocabulary was codified across the long Safavid and Qajar centuries in workshops from Tabriz to Kerman, the medallion and arabesque patterns that the European interior absorbed beginning in the seventeenth century. The neutral reading in this piece sits in the contemporary end of that arc.
The piece comes out of a contemporary studio practice that draws on the long workshop conversation between Turkish and Indian carpet design and the post-war Scandinavian and central-European abstraction that pulled this vocabulary into the modernist interior. The geometry is deliberately asymmetric so the rug does not impose a fixed orientation on the room. Either long edge can face the seating, either short edge can face the entrance, and the green reads consistently in all four orientations.
The fibre
Heat-set polypropylene. The yarn carries colour set by temperature rather than by surface dye, the saturation locked at the molecular level so direct sunlight does not bleach the field the way pigment-printed fibre fades. Spilled wine, juice, oil, or coffee lift with a damp cloth before they set. The pile holds shape under furniture without crushing. The piece is built to absorb the kinds of incidents a hand-knotted rug cannot, in the rooms a hand-knotted rug should not be put. The design language carries through; the maintenance demands do not.
The composition
The composition reads in green with a secondary movement in tonal contrast. The pattern is built to give a room a considered ground without claiming ownership of it, and the synthetic fibre means the saturation does not lift over years of direct sun the way a wool pile gradually does.
The piece in a room
5'3" × 7'10" (160 × 239 cm) works in a living room with sectional seating, in a bedroom under a king bed, in a study with a large desk, or in an open kitchen where moisture and traffic would damage a wool piece. The green pulls cleanly through both daylight and lamplight.
Care
Vacuum weekly. Spot clean with mild detergent on a clean cloth. Machine wash on a cold 30°C cycle if a spill resists spot cleaning, then air dry flat. No professional cleaning required at any point in the working life of the rug.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
