Rugsville Guthrie Pink Oriental Persian Carpet 5'3" x 7'8"

The Persian school of carpet design balanced floral and geometric vocabularies in a way no other regional tradition has matched, the medallion-and-corner-spandrel layout the most copied template in the form's history.

The studio worked the design in graphite and ink for three to four months before approving it for production, the cartoon then translated into the digital file the loom reads as a colour-by-position grid. The colour relationships were tested across multiple proofs to confirm that the pink would hold its weight against both warm and cool ambient light. The piece reads consistently in north-facing rooms and in rooms lit by warm incandescent at evening.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene yarn, the colour set by temperature rather than dyed onto the surface. UV does not bleach the pile, foot traffic does not crush it under furniture legs, and most household spills lift before they have a chance to bond to the fibre. A domestic cool machine wash returns the rug to factory-fresh appearance if a spill resists spot cleaning. The piece is built to absorb the kinds of incidents a hand-knotted rug cannot, in the rooms a hand-knotted rug should not be put. The design language carries through; the maintenance demands do not.

The composition

The palette runs through pink, the field opening to negative space at the borders so the design breathes against the floor. The geometry holds at room distance and reveals the pattern logic only on approach. The colour family stays steady through changing daylight; heat-set yarn does not carry the directional shading that makes a wool pile read warmer or cooler from different angles.

The piece in a room

5'3" × 7'8" (160 × 234 cm) is the working scale for living rooms in flats, dining areas under a six-seater table, primary bedrooms, and corridors with foot traffic the wool tier would not survive. The pink reads at distance and reveals the pattern detail on approach. Position the front legs of the seating onto the rug and leave a perimeter of bare floor as a frame.

Care

Vacuum as routine. Spot clean immediately with water and mild soap. Heat-set fibre does not require professional cleaning at any point in normal household use, and the piece tolerates a cold machine cycle for incidents that resist spot work.
