The drawing here grew out of the conversation contemporary studios in India have been holding with mid-century European abstraction for the last two decades. The carpet is read as a composition, not as a pattern. Field, mark, edge, ground.
The rug was finished by hand in India over 5 weeks. Highland wool was worked through a stretched canvas one loop at a time, then sheared back to the design surface. A team of 3 makers shared the canvas, with a finisher carving the relief and binding the edge with cotton tape so the rug holds its shape across years of use. The back is sealed with natural latex and a cotton scrim that lets the rug lie flat without slipping. The result is a piece of work that carries the hand of its maker in every loop. The piece is finished in India.
The composition
Stepped geometry in brown sits across the field at a reading scale built for distance. The colour blocks are slightly irregular at their edges, the way village-loom dyeing always produces, and that irregularity is the rug's signature. Nothing about it reads as printed. The eye reads the composition as a whole, then walks closer and finds that no two field motifs are quite identical, which is the point of a hand-drawn carpet.
The piece in a room
size as listed () is the working scale for medium living rooms and primary bedrooms. The brown register pairs with linen upholstery, walnut, brass, and unframed canvases. It does not pair well with strongly patterned upholstery. The rug expects to be the only graphic element in the composition. Mid-tone walls let the field carry the room, and a single statement light source overhead reveals the slight pile relief that screen photographs always flatten out.
Care
Vacuum weekly with the beater bar off. Blot spills with cotton, never rub. Rotate twice a year so the pile wears evenly. Professional cleaning every three to four years keeps the colour bright.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
