Rugsville Denise Transitional Gray Floral Persian Carpet 5'3" x 7'

The pattern in this rug grew out of contemporary modernist European weaving ateliers working in conversation with mid-century European geometry. The studio worked the grey ground through several iterations before it was committed to the looms. The drawing was developed across several rounds of paper and colour studies before the looms were set, and the result is a piece that reads with a studio's deliberate hand rather than with the flatness of a stock catalogue print.

The looms in Turkey that produced this piece run a fine gauge of jacquard at high precision, and the construction allows for densities and colour separations that approach the visual register of a hand-tufted carpet at a fraction of the wait and the cost.

The composition

Grey carries the field. The asymmetry of the drawing means there is no single focal point; the eye crosses the surface rather than landing in one place. The pattern gives a room a considered ground without claiming ownership of it. Pairs cleanly with walnut, brass, leather, linen, raw oak. The colour holds at distance and rewards a closer look without demanding it.

The fibre

Polypropylene yarn, heat-set so the colour cannot leach. The construction tolerates households with children and pets, takes a damp cloth without protest, and does not shed in the way a wool tier does. The pile stays flat through years of furniture traffic.

The piece in a room

5' x 7' (152 × 213 cm) is the working scale for a small living room, a study, a guest bedroom, or a dining nook for two to four. It anchors a seating area with the front legs of the sofa landing on the rug and the back legs on the floor. The grey palette sits well against mid-tone walls and warm wood floors. Mid-saturation upholstery in linen, cotton, or undyed wool reads cleanly against the field; deeper tones in leather and walnut anchor the room from above.

Care

Run a vacuum across the surface weekly. Lift stains with cool water and a mild detergent; the fibre resists staining at the molecular level and will release most spills before they set. Suitable for households with children and pets without special handling. Rotate end to end every six months for even wear under foot and furniture.
