Rugsville Clemence Ivory Oriental Persian Carpet 5'3" x 7'10"

Built in ivory, drawn around a Persian-rooted oriental structure. The pattern was tuned in studio for several seasons before it reached production, with the boundaries pulled in and the saturation calibrated for the way contemporary rooms are lit. The result is a rug that holds against both daylight and lamp light without losing its character in either, which is the test that separates a serious studio composition from a pattern repeated to fill a catalogue.

The Persian-rooted oriental drawing here moves through several sources before it settles. The studio looked to historical Anatolian and Persian carpets for proportion, to mid-century Scandinavian textile design for restraint, and to contemporary architectural practice for the relationship between figure and ground. The result is a ivory composition that holds in a contemporary interior without losing the feel of a textile with roots.

The fibre

Heat-set polypropylene. The yarn is engineered so the colour is locked in by temperature rather than by surface dye, which is why saturation does not fade under direct sunlight the way pigment printing fades. The fibre resists staining at the molecular level: spilled wine, juice, oil, or coffee lift with a damp cloth before they set. The pile stays flat under furniture and does not shed, which makes it the practical choice for a household with daily traffic, pets, or children.

The composition

The geometry holds at distance and reveals on approach, and the rug pairs comfortably with both warm and cool wood floors. Mid-tone walls hold the saturation; lighter walls let the rug recede into the room.

Care

Vacuum weekly, suction or gentle beater. Address spills with a damp cloth; the fibre rejects most stains if caught within an hour. The rug can be cold-washed if necessary and dries within two hours laid flat. Direct sun does not bleach the colour the way it bleaches pigment-printed rugs.
