Sage green entered the tribal weaving palette through the iron-mordant indigo bath, where a few hours of oxidation pulled the indigo toward grey and a pinch of weld lifted it back toward leaf. The colour belonged to the Caucasian Kazak in particular, where it framed medallion work in a way the saturated red and indigo of period Anatolian could not. The Anati11 sage reading of that tradition runs at the 9'9" x 12'6" (297 x 381 cm) scale of a long modern living room.
This rug was hand-tufted in India over roughly eight weeks by two tufters and a finisher. Wool was pushed through a stretched cotton canvas one row at a time with a tufting gun, the sage field laid first and the medallion built into the centre. The back was sealed with natural latex and a cotton scrim. The medallion was carved with long shears a millimetre below the field, so the silhouette holds under raking light. The rug was washed twice after the carving and sun-dried flat.
The composition
A muted sage ground carries a pale medallion in ivory, rose, ochre, and walnut, framed by an ornamental vine and dot border. The sage shifts unevenly across the field because the dye bath was small-batch. The medallion reads as a quiet architectural centre rather than as a busy emblem. The border is restrained enough to let the green carry the room. Sage is the colour of a leaf in shadow, and the rug behaves the same way against natural light.
The piece in a room
9'9" x 12'6" (297 x 381 cm) suits a primary living room, a long dining floor, or a master suite. The sage palette pairs with walnut, raw oak, brass, dark linen, and the warm whites of contemporary plaster. The rug works under botanical art, abstract canvas, and architectural photography. The green grounds rooms with strong wall colour and brings life to the cool minimalism of off-white interiors.
Care
Vacuum weekly with the beater bar disengaged so the wool is not pulled out of the canvas. Every hand-tufted rug sheds for the first six to eight weeks of use. Blot spills with a clean cotton cloth and never rub. A professional dry clean every three years lifts settled dust and keeps the sage from going flat. The rug holds its hand for fifteen years and beyond.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
