The graphic language of this rug sits in the long tradition of village and tribal weaving across the Asian belt that runs from the Balkans through the Caucasus and into northwest India. The neutral reading edits the source for a contemporary interior.
Production took a team of two tufters and a finisher around 5 weeks of bench time on a stretched primary canvas. Wool was pushed through a stretched cotton primary canvas one row at a time with a hand-held tufting gun, the colour separations followed off a paper cartoon pinned behind the frame. Once the field was complete, the back was sealed with natural latex and laminated to a cotton scrim that locks the tuft loops in place. After the latex set, a finisher worked the surface with long shears for the better part of a week, lifting and trimming the pattern field by hand to give the design the depth the loom does not produce on its own. The relief catches the slow rake of evening light.
The composition
A blue ground carrying the design in a slightly raised relief. The wool sits between matte and lustred depending on how the light falls on it; in north light the field reads cool, in evening light it warms toward the deeper end of the palette. The figure work holds at room distance and reveals itself only on approach, the way a good painting does the same thing in a gallery.
The piece in a room
The piece sits at 6'6" × 9' (198 × 274 cm), sized for the central area of a living room or a guest bedroom. The blue reads quiet under direct daylight and saturates in the evening when the lamps come on. Pairs with walnut and oak as readily as with darker timbers, and with both linen and leather upholstery.
Care
Suction-only vacuuming weekly. Beater bars pull at the tufted base and shorten the working life of the rug. Blot spills immediately with clean cotton, never with paper towel which leaves fibre behind. Expect six weeks of light shedding from new as the loose ends of the cut pile work themselves clear. A professional dry clean every three years keeps the surface from compacting.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
