Carpet design as a serious decorative practice was codified across the long stretch of West and Central Asia between the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries. The neutral palette in this piece is a contemporary reading of that codified library.
The piece took roughly 3 weeks at a single bench, two tufters carrying the field and a third hand finishing. The wool pile was tufted through a cotton ground one colour separation at a time, the gun working at a controlled tension to keep the loop height even across the field. The latex sealing and scrim laminate were applied after the field was complete and the work cured. The carving step took a finisher about a week with hand shears, cutting the pattern into a low relief that pulls a millimetre or two of shadow into every motif edge. The piece behaves differently in lamp light than in north light.
The composition
A field of blue broken by lighter and darker registers in the same family. The hand-tufted surface gives the colour a subtle directional quality; viewed from one end of the rug it reads a half tone warmer than from the other end. This is a property of how cut pile reflects light, not a flaw of the dye.

The blue reads quiet under direct daylight and saturates in the evening when the lamps come on. Pairs with walnut and oak as readily as with darker timbers, and with both linen and leather upholstery.
Care
Vacuum once a week, suction only, no rotating brush. Blot any spill with a dry cloth and follow with a barely damp cloth if needed. The first month or two will produce some loose fibre from the freshly cut pile, which is expected and stops on its own. A specialist dry clean every three to four years keeps the surface fresh and lifts the dust the household vacuum cannot reach.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
