The visual vocabulary in this piece carries the trace of a dozen generations of workshop refinement, the neutral ground holding a pattern that earlier centuries would have read as familiar even if they would not have recognised the colour.
Production took a team of two tufters and a finisher around 3 weeks of bench time on a stretched primary canvas. Wool was pushed through a stretched cotton primary canvas one row at a time with a hand-held tufting gun, the colour separations followed off a paper cartoon pinned behind the frame. Once the field was complete, the back was sealed with natural latex and laminated to a cotton scrim that locks the tuft loops in place. The final pass was a hand-shear by a single finisher, the pile carved down to relieve the figure above the field by two to three millimetres so the pattern reads at room scale rather than dissolving into noise. The shear marks are visible on close inspection and are the signature of hand finishing.
The composition
A blue ground carrying the design in a slightly raised relief. The wool sits between matte and lustred depending on how the light falls on it; in north light the field reads cool, in evening light it warms toward the deeper end of the palette. The figure work holds at room distance and reveals itself only on approach, the way a good painting does the same thing in a gallery.
The piece in a room
2' × 3' (61 × 91 cm) sits under the front legs of a three-seater sofa with the coffee table fully on the rug, or fully under a queen bed turned across the long axis. The blue answers both painted and panelled walls. Pairs particularly well with low mid-century furniture and with the cleaner profile of contemporary modular seating.
Care
Weekly vacuuming with suction only. Spot clean with cool water and a white cloth; do not use detergents that contain optical brighteners on wool. The pile sheds for roughly six weeks from new, then settles. Schedule a professional clean every three years to extend the working life of the latex bond.

Day-to-day care
- Vacuum gently once a week without a rotating brush bar — use the suction-only setting on hand-knotted or hand-tufted pieces.
- Rotate the rug 180° every 3-6 months so foot traffic and sunlight wear is even.
- Use a quality rug pad underneath for slip resistance and to extend life.
- Blot fresh spills immediately with a clean white cloth — do not rub. Work from the edge of the spill inward.
Deep cleaning
- Professional dry-cleaning is recommended every 12-24 months for hand-knotted carpets.
- Avoid steam cleaners and hot water on natural-fibre rugs (wool, silk, jute) — they can cause shrinkage and dye bleeding.
- For washable flat-weaves and cotton dhurries, machine-wash on a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag.
Storage
- Roll (do not fold) the carpet around a clean cardboard tube, pile-side in.
- Wrap in breathable cotton sheeting (not plastic) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space.
- Use moth-protection sachets if storing wool for more than a season.

Frequently asked
How long will shipping take?
Most metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) receive their order in 3-5 business days. Tier-2 cities take 5-7 business days, and remote pin codes (J&K, North-East, Andamans) take 7-10 business days. Use the pin-code checker above for a concrete delivery date.
Will the colour exactly match the photo?
Each carpet is hand-crafted with natural-dye yarns, so a small variation in shade, pattern density, and tone is expected and is part of the authenticity of a handmade piece. Colours on screen also vary by monitor and lighting. If you are matching a specific decor, request a yarn sample before ordering.
Can I get a sample before buying?
Yes — we send 2-3 small yarn / pile samples for ₹500 (refundable against your purchase). Message us on WhatsApp with the SKU and your shipping pin code to arrange a sample.
What is your returns process?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery in original condition (rolled, not folded; no pet hair, smoke, or stains). Email care@rugsville.in or message us on WhatsApp with your order number — we arrange free reverse pickup in most pin codes. Refunds are processed within 3-5 working days of receipt at our warehouse.
Do you take custom orders?
Yes. Custom-size, custom-colour, and custom-design hand-knotted carpets typically take 4-8 weeks depending on size and complexity. Minimum custom-order size is 4'×6'. Send us your brief on WhatsApp with the room photo and dimensions for a quote.
Is Cash on Delivery (COD) available?
COD is available for most pin codes in zones A and B (metros and tier-2 cities). Some remote pin codes are prepaid only — the pin-code checker above will tell you immediately.
